Demonstration of Japanese rejuvenating face massage with shiatsu elements took place in Nature – Egypt Studio in Kraków on 6th January 2007. Presentation was preceded by lecture on shiatsu history, techniques applied in this type of massage and its beneficial effects on health and beauty.

History

First information on shiatsu date back to the beginning of our era. Conventional Chinese massage was known as anma. Gradually it was practised by the Japanese. Then, under the influance of easten medicine and western anma knowledge it turned into contemporary shiatsu. Japanese word shiatsu consists of two elements, where shi means finger while atsu means pressure. Application of pressure is a basic rule of shiatsu.

Stages of the massage

Japanese face lifting is divided into three stages: firstly, to establish link with the client’s skin stroking movements are performed...

...then shiatsu movements,...

...in the final stage jade rollers are used.

Touch is the essence of shiatsu. It is an excellent means of imparting positive feelings and empathy to other people in a very direct way. Type and thus the quality of the touch differs considerably, to begin with aggressive, abusive through mechanical to more delicate, intuitive and protective, like in shiatsu. All human beings need touch and shiatsu helps to satisfy that need.
